Beautiful Blossoms and Irresistible fruit

Pineapple Quinces are an exotic fruits that are related to apples and pears. They are extremely popular to cook with because they have a sweet, yet tart flavor that gets sweeter when cooked with an aftertaste that’s similar to a pineapple.

These quinces are most commonly used for making jams and wines, but they’re also great for baking into pies and cooking with meat. They have hard flesh at first, but grow increasingly softer as they cook, eventually gaining the consistency of applesauce and that pairs perfectly with cinnamon.

Before cooking your quinces they can be stored in a bowl in any room of the house. Their vibrant yellow skin will add a pop of color to any space and their strong, pineapple aroma will naturally perfume the air. You’ll love entering the kitchen or dining room when your fresh quinces greet you with their sweet tropical scent.

As an ornamental tree Pineapple Quince Trees fit perfectly in the landscape by only growing to about 10 feet tall. They are beautiful accent trees, especially in the summer when soft white and pink blooms emerge all over the branches before growing into vivid yellow fruit in the fall.

The Pineapple Quince is awarded for its pest and disease resistant qualities. It’s much tougher than other quince varieties and is an extremely low maintenance tree as a result.

You won’t have to worry about your Pineapple Quince trees because they are drought tolerant, heat resistant, and cold hardy. They will thrive in the elements with vivid color while producing tons of delicious quinces.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Choose a location with well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight (6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day). Dig a hole for your Quince that’s three times as wide and equal in depth as the root ball. Remove your plant from its original container, position into the hole ensuring that it’s standing upright, and the top of the root ball is even with the ground.

Begin backfilling the hole, tamping down lightly as you go. Once the hole has been completely filled, water to allow the soil to settle and eliminate any air pockets. Finally, apply a 3 to 5-inch layer of mulch around the plant to help enrich the soil as well as conserve moisture and control weeds.

2. Watering: Quince is a drought-tolerant plant that requires a deep watering about once a week. We recommend watering these plants in the morning, at the base. If you’re not sure when to water, simply check the top 2 inches of soil for dryness. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water your shrub.

3. Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release fertilizer once a year in early spring, before new growth emerges. Follow up by watering the surrounding soil to allow the fertilizer to penetrate into the roots. Be sure to follow the application instructions on the fertilizer.

4. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed for these plants. Any broken branches can be pruned back in spring before new growth begins.
