Get Double the Amount of Berries!

TWO Bountiful Crops of Blueberries Every Year!

One of the newest hybrids in the Bushel and Berry collection of compact fruit, the Perpetua is the only dependable double-cropping blueberry bush! It can produce twice as much fruit in the same or less space as any other variety.

The Perpetua flowers in April — along with other blueberries — producing a full crop in early summer. Soon after the last berry is picked, it blooms again in mid-summer for another helping of fruit in late August. This second batch of blueberries continues to ripen through fall until frosty nights set in.

Delicious, Edible Landscaping
Whether you’re looking to grow blueberries for your own dining enjoyment or want fruiting plants for bird and butterfly habitat, the Perpetua delivers a bounty of berries 2 to 3 months of the year!

A deep, violet-blue, these tender berries have a mild, lightly sweetened taste. Their small size makes them a healthy, right-off-the-bush snack or fresh topping for morning cereal and summer salads.

With two harvests, there’s no need to be thrifty. You can use the second batch to stock your pantry or freezer. Their delicate flavor makes a naturally-sweet jam. Or freeze them in quart bags for a nutritious addition to muffins, pancakes, and smoothies.

It takes the Perpetua bush about 1 year to fruit. By the 2nd year, you’ll have up to 4 pounds of berries; expect even more as it continues to mature

Although it self-pollinates, planting a second variety nearby will increase your harvest with bigger berries and more fruit!

Delivers Four Seasons of Color
The Perpetua is not only a tasty food source, it doubles as colorful garden landscaping year-round. Each spring and summer crop commences with a profusion of small, white flowers that soon transform into deep, blueberries. The glossy, green leaves provide a rich habitat that burnishes red after the second harvest comes to an end.

Grow Pounds of Blueberries with Ease!
A hybrid of native, North American varieties, the Perpetua Blueberry is an adaptable, easy-to-grow fruit. Cold hardy, heat tolerant, and disease resistant, this bush flourishes throughout much of the U.S. — USDA zones 4-8. It performs best in a bright, sunny location with well-draining, moist soil.

Its upright, vase shape reaches 4 to 5 feet and grows quickly into an edible hedge or yard border. When space is at a premium or garden conditions aren’t ideal, you can also plant this bush in a container for easy access to fresh fruit!

With two bumper crops each year, the Perpetua is the only blueberry variety that reliably delivers ripe-for-the-picking fruit much of summer and into fall. Give us a call. Our experts are on hand to provide additional guidance and suggest a compatible cross-pollinator that will ensure the biggest harvests from your Perpetua Blueberry bushes!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant the Perpetua blueberry plant in well-draining, acidic soil with a soil pH of 4.5 to 5.5 for best growth. Ideally, you should check the soil pH levels using a soil pH kit prior to planting the Perpetua blueberry plant because if the soil pH is not ideal, the plant will fail to grow well or produce berries.

Choose a planting site that is located in full sun. Dig a hole that is twice as large as the plant’s root system. Set the plant’s root ball into the hole and fill with soil. Press the soil down around the plant’s roots to firm and remove all air pockets.

Apply a three-inch layer of mulch around the Perpetua blueberry plant to inhibit unwanted weed growth and keep the soil moist.

Plant the Perpetua blueberry plant in a pot that is twice as large as the plant’s root ball. The pot should have adequate drainage holes in the base to allow the water to drain from the soil. Fill the container with three inches of potting soil that is acidic. Place the rootball into the pot and firm soil around the plant’s roots. Leave a one-inch gap between the top of the soil and the rim of the pot. Water the blueberry plant thoroughly after planting. Place the pot in an area that receives adequate sunlight.

2. Watering: The Perpetua blueberry plant does not tolerate drought. It requires moist soil to thrive. Water the plant at least once per week to keep the soil moist. Mulching can help retain soil moisture.

3. Fertilizer: Fertilize the Perpetua blueberry plant with an acid fertilizer such as those that are commonly used for rhododendrons and azaleas. Follow the directions on the fertilizer’s label for application ratios.

4. Pruning: Prune the Perpetua blueberry plant in the early spring. Remove all dead, damaged, and non-fruiting branches.
